ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಜಿಜ್ಞಾಸೆ

ಕನ್ನಡ ರಾಜ್ಯೋತ್ಸವದ  ಪ್ರಯುಕ್ತ ಬರೆದ ನನ್ನ ಕವನ, ಮೈಸೂರು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಮನಮೋಹಕ ಸುಗಂಧ ಹಾಗು ವೈಶಿಷ್ಟ್ಯತೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇತ್ತು. ಈ ಕವನವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಗುಂಪಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧ  ಬರಹಗಾರರು ಹಾಗು ಆದರದ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀವತ್ಸ ದೇಸಾಯಿ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಅನುಭವ ಹಾಗು 2013  ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ  ಭೇಟಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಾಗ ಮೈಸೂರಿನ  ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ  ದೇವರಾಜ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆ ಅಥವಾ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮಾರ್ಕೆಟ್ ಅಂತಾನೆ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುವ ಮಾರ್ಕೆಟಿನ ವಿಡಿಯೋ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಕೋರಿಕೆಯ ಮೇರೆಗೆ  ತಮ್ಮ ಅನಸಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ವಿಡಿಯೋ ಜೊತೆಯೇ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ದೇಸಾಯಿ ಸರ್ ತುಂಬಾ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು 

Morning Scene in a flower market!

I filmed this in 2013. It was my second visit to Devraj  Market in the centre of Mysuru.  Even though I had heard a lot about it from others, especially my wife's family, I was  fascinated on my very first visit and loved it. This time I was staying in Dasaprakash Hotel , a stone's throw  (should I say, a flower bloom's throw, as it is so near) from the market. The colours and smells were a feast to one's eyes and nose. Not to speak of rows of coloured (rangoli?) powders heaped like pyramids in rows and rows. It was photographer's paradise.

I wanted to catch the morning scene as the cart load of flowers converged to it from surrounding fields and villages (I learnt as I interviewed the vendors). The garlands had been done very early that morning. As I set off from the Hotel after my rejuvenating cup of Mysore coffee I observed how wide the roads had been in spite of urban development. Previously, I was told "the roads were even wider and there were trees on either side; the water supply, drainage everything was perfect," gloated a  grandmother. 

This time I was keen to  capture the early morning scene.At the entrance to Devraj Market  a man was sprinkling water to stop the dust rise and clean the pavement. The general scene brought me memories of the trailer of “My Fair Lady” based  on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion. Only Eliza Dolittle was missing! This was no Covent Garden but had its own distinct atmosphere and character. As I walked along, I dodged a couple of hand carts laden with big sacs of yellow chrysanthemums racing to the flower auction. A few stalls were still being set up. They were trying to entice the early punters. Their voices drowned by auctioneers’ loud calling mixed with bidders’ frantic voices. I weaved my way amidst them taking it all in and capturing in my camcorder which caught the attention of a number of curious people who wanted to know which TV channel I represented! It was all fun to see hear and shoot my film. The famous Mysuru mallige had attracted not just me but many bees too! 

I edited this film in 2016 and again in 2020 to my favourite Hindi song! The first words of the lyrics resonate in Mohammad Rafi’s golden voice: O the season of spring, shower the flowers on my beloved just arrived!

ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಋತುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗು ಹಬ್ಬಗಳ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಊರು ಮೈಸೂರಿನವಳಾದ ನಾನು ಅದನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಹಂಬಲಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ .

ಸುಮಾರು ೩ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಬೆಳೆಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ,ನನ್ನ ದುರಾದೃಷ್ಟ ಗಿಡ ಒಣಗಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಯೊಡನೆ ದಿನ ಪೇಟೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಹೂವು ಹಣ್ಣು ಕಾಯಿಪಲ್ಯೆ ತರುವ ಆಚರಣೆ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಹೂವಾಡಗಿತ್ತಿ ನಮಗೆ ಮುಖ ಪರಿಚಯ. ಬಹಳ ಶಾಂತ ಹಾಗು ಹಸನ್ಮುಖಿ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ಅವರ ಮುಖ ಇನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಸಿರಾಗಿದೆ. ಸರಸರನೆ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಅವರ ಕೈಚಾತುರ್ಯ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಯಾವಾಗಲು ಮಂತ್ರಮುಗ್ಧನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ನನಗೆ ಯಾವಾಗಲು ಅಂಗೈ ಉದ್ದದ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಮಾಲೆ ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು,"ತುಗೋ ಪುಟ್ಟಿ ಹೂ ,ನಿನಗೆ ".ಅಂತ ಹೇಳಿ ಮುಗುಳ್ನಗುವರು. ಏನೋ ಒಂದು ಖುಷಿ.ಆ ಹೂವನ್ನು ಅಮ್ಮನಿಗೆ ಕೊಡದೆ ನಾನೇ ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಬರ್ತಿದ್ದೆ.ನನಗೆ ಗುಲಾಬಿ ಸೇವಂತಿಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು . ಆದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಅಮ್ಮನಿಗೆ ಖುಷಿ, ಅಯ್ಯೋ! ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ರು ಅಂತ ..,ಆದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಜಿಜ್ಞಾಸೆ ಏನೆಂದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲರು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಬೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ಗುಲಾಬಿ ಸೇವಂತಿ ಸಂಪಿಗೆಯ ರಾಶಿಯ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಮಲ್ಲೆ

ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಯೋಡನೆ ದಿನನಿತ್ಯ ಪೇಟೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಪುಟ್ಟಿಯ  ಮುಗ್ದ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ

 ಬಣ್ಣಬಣ್ಣದ ಹೂವಿನ ನಡುವೆ  ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೆ ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸುವುದು ಏಕೆ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ

ಎಲ್ಲರು ಏಕೆ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಖರೀದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚೌಕಾಶಿ ಮಾಡುತಿಹರು

ಗುಲಾಬಿಯ ವಿವಿಧ ಬಣ್ಣ ಇದಕಿಲ್ಲ ಸೇವಂತಿಗೆಯಂತೆ  ತಾಜಾತನ ಉಳಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ 

ಸಂಪಿಗೆಯ ಪ್ರಖರವಾದ ಸುವಾಸನೆ ಇಲ್ಲ  ಮತ್ತೇಕೆ ಬೇಡಿಕೆ 

ಮುಂಜಾನೆ ಬಂದಿಳಿತು  ಶುಭ್ರ ಶ್ವೇತ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ರಾಶಿ ಬುಟ್ಟಿ

ಹೂಗಾರ ಒಂದೆರಡು ಮಾರನ್ನು ಕೆಸುವಿನ ಎಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಟ್ಟಿ 

ಆಹ್ಲಾದಕರ ಬಿಡಿ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯೋ ಸುಂದರ ಸುರುಳಿ ರಾಶಿ ಮುತ್ತಿನ ಹಾರವೋ  

ಪೋಣಿಸಿದ ಮೊಗ್ಗು ಲಲನೆಯ ಮುಡಿಯ ಜಡೆ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಅಲಂಕಾರವೋ 

ಹಬ್ಬವೋ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವವೋ ಕಳೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವ ಮಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮಾಲೆಯೋ  

ಮನೆಯ ತುಂಬಾ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಪರಿಮಳ 

ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಮಕ್ಕಳು  ಮೊಗ್ಗಿನ ಜಡೆಯ ಸಂಭ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ತಳಮಳ 

ಕಾಲ  ಬೆಳೆದಂತೆ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯು ಬೆಳೆಯಿತು 

ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರು ದೇವರ ಮನೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರಪಟ ಮೇಲೆ 

ಅಂಬಾರಿಯ ಚಾಮುಂಡೇಶ್ವರಿಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ

ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಈ ಸರಳ ಸ್ಕೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ಹೂ

ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ದಿನವನ್ನು ವಿಶೇಷ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ 

ದೇಶ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ವಿದೇಶದ ನೆಲದಲ್ಲಿ 

ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರಿಗೆ ಹಂಬಲಿಸುವಂತೆ 

ಈ ಮುಗ್ಧ ಸುಗಂಧಿತ ಸುಂದರ ಹೂವನ್ನು 

ಸದಾ ಹಂಬಲಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 

ಬೆಳೆಸಲು ನಾನು ಅವಿರತ ಸತತ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದಲ್ಲಿ 

ನಮ್ಮೂರಿನ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಕೈಗೆಟಕುವ ಈ  ಸ್ವತ್ತು  

ಆದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಕೆಂದರೂ ಸಿಗದ ವಸ್ತು
